  3. Welcome to the Civilization II Toolkit CDROM!
  4.  
  5. This CD will enhance your Civ2 game playing experience.
  6.  
  7. Included on this CDROM:

  11.   * 4 Frequently Asked Questions files

  22.       This version was made specifically for this CDROM toolkit!

  24. There are essentially 3 ways you can use/install this CD:
  25.  
  26.   1. Grab individual files off the CD - Use "View CDROM Contents" and
  27.        click on any ".zip" file you see, avoiding the "unzipped\" directory.
  28.   2. Install all the files at once - Use "View CDROM Contents" and
  29.        click on "total.zip" in the root directory.  Be warned, this will
  30.        eat up a fair amount of space on your hard drive.  Also note that you
  31.        won't be able to use "View CDROM Contents" to read the pretty
  32.        descriptions we've included.
  33.   3. Use files directly off the CD (in this case, you won't have the
  34.        Civ2 game disc in the drive and won't get the nifty animations
  35.        included in the game).

  37. **** Quick Help (how to use new levels) ****

  41.   01. Decide where you're going to be using files from (see above 3 methods).
  42.   02. Start Civilization II
  43.   03. Click on "Start on a Premade World"
  44.   04. Select a new scenario with "Select Map to Load"
  45.

  48.   05. Click "No" at
  49.         "Do you wish to randomize this world's villages and resource squares?"
  50.   06. Click "No" at
  51.         "Do you wish to randomize this world's player starting locations?"

  55.   07. Select any "Difficulty Level"

  59.   08. Click "OK" at "Select Level of Competition"

  75. **** Detailed Example of How To use a new level ***

  77.   Example of using a new level (let's try "Quebec"):

  79.   01. Open the "View CDROM Contents" program.
  80.   02. Double click on "scenario\"
  81.   03. Double click on "fiction\"
  82.   04. Double click on "quebec.zip"
  83.   05. Click "OK" to install.
  84.         After the new level has been installed, you will be given the
  85.         opportunity to remove it.  This is in case you accidentally installed
  86.         the wrong level.  Click "NO" when it asks "Would you like to delete
  87.         the directory c:\mps\quebec?"
  88.   06. Quit out of "View CDROM Contents" (you are done with it for now)
  89.   07. Start Civilization 2
  90.   08. Click on "Start on Premade World"
  91.   09. Change to c:\mps\quebec, click on quebec.mp, and click "OK"
  92.   10. Click "No" at
  93.         "Do you wish to randomize this world's player starting locations?"
  94.   11. Select any "Difficulty Level"

  123. Quick Start Instructions:
  124.  
  125.   Windows 3.1/NT:
  126.     Go to "File" menu under program manager and choose Run.  At the
  127.     Command Line box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.
  128.     This will install a group folder with icons for this cdrom.

  130.   MSDOS Quick Start:
  131.     Change to your CDROM drive and type "view".
  132.     Example:
  133.           C:\> D:
  134.           D:\> view
  135.  
  136.   Windows 95:
  137.     Insert the cdrom into the cdrom drive.  This will automatically
  138.     start a CDROM browser program called WinView.
  139.     Alternatively, you can also install the program group and icon
  140.     by selecting the "Start" menu and choosing "Run".  At the Run
  141.     box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.

  143. Using the 00_INDEX.HTM:
  144.  
  145. We have included 00_index.htm files so the user may use a Web browser
  146. to view our disc.
  147.  
  148. In order to view this disc using these 00_index.htm files, point your
  149. Web browser to the root level 00_index.htm file.
  150.  
  151. For example, in Netscape/Mosaic:
  152.  
  153.         1) Choose File/Open File (or File/Open Local File with Mosaic)
  154.         2) Choose your CDROM Drive under "Drives"
  155.         3) Select the 00_index.htm file
  156.         4) Click on OK
  157.  
  158. The 00_index.htm files have been tested under Netscape 1.1 (Windows,
  159. Macintosh, and FreeBSD), Netscape 1.22 (Windows), Netscape 2.0b2,
  160. Mosaic 2.00 (Final Beta), and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

  164. WinView and View
  165.  
  166. To make browsing the disc easier, we have included the program WinView
  167. for Windows, and the program VIEW for MSDOS on the CDROM.  These programs
  168. allow you to page through index files, browse through directories on the
  169. CD, view documentation and uncompress/install the program(s) you want
  170. onto your hard disk.

  177. be considered to be a sort of try before you buy system where you are
